Deanna Williams Smith, 12th Year - Camp Director
Deanna Smith has over 25 years of program and project development experience. She currently serves as Executive Director for Strategic Engagement for the Office of Research at the SU Innovation Center. Smith has led Contract and Proposal Development efforts for the Southern University Office of Governmental Contracting Services for the past ten years. At present, she is managing multiple federal protégé contracts.
Smith has also successfully managed IDIQ contracts for the New Orleans, St. Louis, and Rock Island Districts of the Army Corps of Engineers, totaling over $7 million. She was instrumental in transforming the management process of the Southern University Laboratory Analytical Testing Program to support newly awarded projects with laboratories throughout the US.
Her student outreach includes placement of student interns through the Mentor Protégé Program with federal agencies across the US, generating permanent job opportunities for SU students within the federal government. She is a former instructor at Our Lady of the Lake College.
For the past 12 years, she has provided oversight for K-8th grade summer programs at the university that foster educational experiences in STEM. Under her leadership, Camp CEES has become one of the university's most recognizable summer experiences for K-8th grade students.
BRITTANY BASS ARVIE, 11th Year - Assistant Camp Director
Hello, I am Brittany Bass Arvie a native of Shreveport,
Louisiana.I am an alumnus of Southern University and
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, a Masters in Business
Administration (MBA), and a Juris Doctorate. I served as the Camp Administrator
for Camp Cees for six years and I eagerly accepted the promotion as assistant
camp director in 2015. Each summer I look forward to engaging with the campers
in lots of hands on fun with science and technology. Camp Cees is a wonderful
program where students benefit tremendously, and I look forward to another
